The man appointed to independently review the ABC's Q&A program has taken a swipe at the prime minister for instructing his ministers to avoid appearing on the show's panel.
Ray Martin and former SBS managing director Shaun Brown will audit Q&A, following convicted criminal Zaky Mallah's appearance on the show more than a fortnight ago.
"I just think it's so silly to do it," Martin told the Seven Network on Tuesday.
Martin suspects Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull will abide by Mr Abbott's decree, following the lead of fellow cabinet member Barnaby Joyce.
The former commercial television journalist agreed to an ABC board request to review the program because he believed there needed to be some balance brought to the debate.
"I thought the rants and raves were a bit crazy," Martin said as he called for people to have "a Bex and a good lie down".
The review's report will be published later in the year.
