PNG court to set detention case date

A Papua New Guinean constitutional challenge to the Manus Island detention centre is expected to receive a hearing date on Monday.

The Papua New Guinean Supreme Court is expected to set the hearing date for a constitutional challenge to the Manus Island detention centre on Monday.

PNG lawyer Ben Lomai on Friday, filed a submission to the court adding 287 asylum seekers to the case bringing the total to 600.

The outcome could have implications for asylum seekers held in the detention centre and refugees resettled in the PNG community.
