Live State of Origin broadcasts should be banned in Papua New Guinea because of post match violence, local police say.
Enga Provincial Police Commander George Kakas wants the live feeds banned amid local reports a youth was charged with killing another over a match result, while a fight after round two led to the death of a man in Port Moresby.
"I call on the government of Papua New Guinea to ban the live coverage of Origin matches in Papua New Guinea," an Enga Police spokesman told the ABC.
"It's a game where people normally watch and enjoy themselves but nowadays its not that, its changing, supporters of the Blues and supporters of the Maroons, they've started to hate each other, argue," he said.
"There are a lot of killings around the place because of State of Origin matches."
The game is taken very seriously in the Pacific Island nation - the only country in the world where Rugby League is the national sport.
