Papua New Guinean police are so far yet to act on their threat to storm the Manus Island detention centre to arrest managers for perverting the course of justice unless three Australian guards accused of rape are returned for questioning.

Manus Island provincial police commander Alex N'Drasal had set a 4.06pm Thursday deadline.

He was unavailable for comment.

Local Manus Island MP Ron Knight told AAP all was quiet at the detention centre.

PNG police are investigating allegations the trio, who worked for Wilson Security, drugged and gang raped a local woman who also worked at the centre.

They are angry Australian authorities removed the group from the island before a formal investigation.

Rape convictions in PNG carry the death penalty.

The woman had made an official complaint to police on Wednesday morning and supplied some evidence.

The immigration department confirmed on Wednesday the three staff members had been stood down and were back in Australia.

But it rejected claims it was involved in a cover-up.

"As this matter is now the subject of a police investigation, the department will not be commenting further," a spokeswoman said on Thursday.

Wilson Security has declined to comment, referring AAP to the department
