Poland down Volleyroos at world champs

Australia have suffered a 25-17, 25-19, 25-22 loss to Poland at the volleyball world championships in Wroclaw.

Australia's fortunes at the volleyball world championships have taken a sour turn, as the side was outclassed by hosts Poland in a 3-0 loss.

After a dream start to the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Cameroon in their first match, the Volleyroos struggled from the get-go against Poland in Wroclaw on Tuesday.

Following the loss of their first three serves, the Australians were never able to regain their composure, as they struggled with the Polish serve and lost the first set 25-17.

Looking more competitive in the second set, they fought back to trail the home side 19-20 but had their efforts trampled as Poland won the final five points to close the set 25-19.

The Volleyroos again let a strong start slip in the third set, managing to take a handful of easy points late in the match to make the score look more respectable, with a final set score of 25-22.

Australia next take on Serbia on Wednesday (Thursday morning AEST).
