Australia have unearthed yet another rising star in the women's pole vault, with Phillipa Hajdasz claiming silver with a personal best of 4.05m at the world youth athletics championships in Colombia.
The Victorian powered over her first three heights of 3.70m, 3.85m and 3.95m before clinching silver behind Sweden's Elienor Werner (4.26m) with her best-ever vault.
China's Qiaoling Chen tied for second spot with Hajdasz.
"It's all I wanted, I didn't even think I'd get that," Hajdasz said.
"I was so nervous, every jump I felt so sick, I looked at all the others and that calmed me down.
"I didn't expect that - I thought I might crack under pressure."
Russia's Valeriya Nikonova and Belgian Hanne de Baene also went over at 4.05m but missed out on the medals.
Australia have produced a string of world-class performers in the women's pole vault in the past two decades including former world-record holder Emma George, Olympic silver medallist Tatiana Grigorieva and Commonwealth champions Kym Howe and Alana Boyd.
Brenton Foster was eighth in the boys' high jump in Cali with a clearance of 2.07m.
Fellow Queenslander Clara Smith was seventh in the girls' 5000m walk in 23 minutes 22.36 seconds.
Rising sprint star Jack Hale finished a disappointing campaign in Cali by breaking in the 200m semi-finals.
The Tasmanian had been eliminated in the 100m semis earlier in the championships.
Australia athletes have now claimed four medals at the championships, which conclude on Monday (AEST).
