Police investigate Qld unit explosion

A man has suffered extensive burns after an explosion at a unit complex on the Gold Coast.

Detectives are investigating whether a drug lab caused an explosion that injured a man at a Gold Coast townhouse.

A man suffering serious burns walked into Robina Hospital about 5am (AEST) on Tuesday, police say.

The man, aged in his 30s, was reportedly dropped off by a woman.

But officers say it was several hours before neighbours reported hearing a loud bang at the home on Killarney Avenue, Robina.

The force of the explosion significantly damaged the garage door.

The man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for specialised treatment on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Bruce Pearce said it was difficult to piece together what happened without talking to the man.

"We're trying to locate the female and speak to her," he told ABC radio.

Police said they were investigating whether the blast was linked to illegal drug production.

There was nothing to suggest the man had any bikie links, a police spokeswoman added.
