Police investigate Vic newborn death

Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a newborn whose body was taken to a hospital in regional Victoria.

A woman from regional Victoria is no longer under police guard while homicide detectives investigate the death of a baby.

Police say a man arrived at Bairnsdale Hospital about 7.30pm on Friday with the body of a newborn, which is believed to have been found at a property in Ah Yee Place in Paynesville.

The 30-year-old woman is no longer under police guard in relation to the incident, but the investigation is continuing, a Victoria Police statement said.
