Police officer in court on sex offences

A man has been suspended from the police with pay after being charged with a string of sex offences against young boys when he was a minor.

A NSW police officer was a teenager when he allegedly sexually assaulted two young boys, a court has heard.

The man, who cannot be identified because he was a minor at the time, has been suspended from the force with pay after being charged with a string of sex offences.

The 37-year-old's alleged offending involved two young boys, then aged six-to-nine and five-to-eight years old, between 1992 and 1994.

The man is a senior constable attached to the northern region of NSW that stretches north of Newcastle to the Queensland border.

He appeared briefly in Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday with a woman by his side.

The officer was between 15 and 17 years old when he allegedly assaulted the boys.

The case was adjourned to July 24.

The officer is charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault; one count of aggravated indecent assault; and five counts of aggravated act of indecency.
