A police operation at a western Sydney high school has ended without injury.

A high school, Delaney College, and adjoining primary school, Holy Trinity Catholic College, were both placed in lockdown on Tuesday afternoon.

At 3.30pm (AEST), the primary school's 200 students were walked out but the 420-student high school remained in lockdown.

Police say the operation has "now concluded and that everyone is safe".

Police negotiators earlier surrounded the high school and were speaking with a young person.
