Police and rescuers are using dirt bikes and four-wheel drives to scour the countryside in and around Kendall on the seventh day of the search for missing toddler William Tyrell.
The three-year-old was last seen in a Spiderman costume playing outside his grandmother's house with his young sister on the NSW mid north-coast village last Friday.
More than 70 rescuers were directed on Thursday to look for discarded clues along the roadside in the hope they may uncover a spot where William may have been "assisted" into a car.
But Superintendent Paul Fehon says all possibilities are still open.
"Every piece of information is being followed through," he said.
"We're still open to all possibilities - of course human intervention (is one of those) if we cannot find William in this area.
"Everyone is very committed. We're talking about a three-year-old boy."
Scores of police and volunteers have searched the village, including bushland and waterways over the past six days.
The first of a two-day search of roadsides started on Thursday "in case something has been thrown", said Police Rescue Sergeant John King.
"It will be a sweep search of the side of the road," he told volunteers at a briefing.
Police say the boy could not be alive after so long if he was in bushland, but they remain open-minded about what might have happened to him.
Sgt King told volunteers not to give up hope.
"We look at those statistics and this is a stand-alone case, so we still hold promise and we are going to continue with that attitude," he said.
Meanwhile, police have blocked off Beneroon Drive, the street where William went missing.
The quiet, well-manicured street with few houses is surrounded on three sides by dense bushland.
The house overlooks the street and is so quiet, police believe residents would have heard or spotted a car in the vicinity.
William had been playing with his sister in and around the house when he went missing.
A strike force has been set up to investigate the disappearance, including specialist police and officers from the sex crimes squad.
