Police are looking for a man who took an injured woman to a regional Victorian hospital before she died.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was carried by a man to Mildura Base Hospital about 7am on Monday, Victoria Police say.

The man left, and the woman later died.

The homicide squad believe Preston man Steven Samaras, also known as Steven Kallouf, can help them with their investigation.

He was last seen in Mildura on Monday morning driving a white Jeep Cherokee with a box trailer attached.
