Police, SES search for murder weapon

With a 54-year-old woman found dead in a house in Brisbane, police and SES volunteers have combed nearby streets and bushland in search of a weapon.

There could be more than one person of interest in the suspected murder of a 54-year-old woman at a house in Brisbane's west.

SES volunteers joined police on Friday in searching for a weapon in the vicinity of a house in Jillinda Place, The Gap where the body was found.

Bushland meets the rear of a number of properties in the street.

"That will be rigorously and continuously looked at to identify those responsible for the death of a woman at The Gap," Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said on Friday in describing what he said was a murder investigation.

Police said the person who alerted them to the incident had been assisting homicide detectives and that the woman did not live alone. They did not reveal the nature of her injuries.

Anyone in the area around Jillinda Place and Kays Road, The Gap, who may have seen anything out of the ordinary is urged to come forward.
