Police say the male officer was injured as he sought to intervene in a scuffle between a fellow officer and two people at Ballarat on Thursday night.
The plain-clothes officer was stabbed in the face and leg, and went to hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Police have arrested a 17-year-old Wendouree girl and a 21-year-old Ballarat man and charged them both over the incident on Friday.
The girl has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, assaulting police, assault with a weapon, affray and breaching bail conditions.
