Bidding for the chance to share a sitting week dinner at a "fine Canberra restaurant" with the Member for Fairfax is now open, having gained $3000 in offers as of Thursday evening.
Unlike their infamous Chinese meal, Malcolm Turnbull won’t be on the guest list – the communications minister is teaming up with his wife and former Sydney Lord Mayor Lucy to host dinner for a winning bidder and three friends.
Along with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Mr Turnbull raised the most in last year’s auction – a seat at that dinner table sold for $13,000 – though his offer to cook his “famous yabby pasta” in his Canberra home has so far attracted only $3850.
The prime minister is far closer to beating his 2013 total, having already gained bids of $5000 to join him for dinner at the Lodge, Kirribilli House or the Prime Minister’s Dining Room at Parliament House
Bill Shorten and Tanya Plibersek are also offering bidders a chance to dine with them, attracting $3000 so far, while Greens Leader Christine Milne, Deputy Leader Adam Bandt and newly re-elected Senator Scott Ludlam are hoping bidders will want to dine with them.
But it’s not all fancy dinners – charitable tennis fans can bid for a lesson with Liberal MP John Alexander and “arguably one of the greatest players of all time” Ken Rosewall, while cricket and AFL tickets are also on offer.
Proceeds from the auction, which closes on Wednesday, will be donated to a range of charities.
