Poll has WA Labor ahead but it is close

WA Labor could get a nine per cent swing at the March 11 state election, but that may not be enough to beat the Liberal National government, a new poll shows.

The latest poll ahead of the WA election shows Labor could receive a hefty nine per cent swing, but that might not be enough to form government.

The ReachTEL poll has Labor's lead narrowing to 52-48 on a two-party preferred basis, a nine per cent change on the 2013 election.

But the opposition needs to pick up a 10 per cent cent swing and 10 seats to remove the Liberal National government at next weekend's election, Fairfax Media reports.

The poll gave Labor a primary vote of 34.4 per cent and the Liberals 32.5 per cent.

Another 30 per cent could go the Nationals, One Nation, Greens and independents, highlighting the importance of preferences.

The ReachTEL poll of almost 1700 people had One Nation getting a relatively poor 8.5 per cent primary vote, less than the Greens.

That compares to past polls giving the minor party a 13 per cent vote, and predicting it would obtain the balance of power.
