Stop talking in your own bubble and start talking to people who disagree with you if you want to win votes, Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese has told voters and political hopefuls.

Mr Albanese is concerned many voters are only interacting with people on social media and elsewhere who have identical views.

"There will be people in my electorate who will believe the Greens will win the electorate of Grayndler because they only talk to people who are also voting Green in Grayndler," he told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday.

"I think they'll be disappointed come May 18 - we'll wait and see."

Mr Albanese said the marriage equality debate revealed many voters were in bubbles where they thought everyone believed the same way as they did.

"Similarly there are some people who think everyone supports Adani, others say everyone opposes Adani," he said.

"The truth is that political debate is far more complex than that and one of the things that I've consistently called for is for people to talk outside their comfort zone."

Mr Albanese said he was prepared to engage with people who disagree with him, not just talk to people who already believe the same things.

"Because the job of politics and the way you form government is to convince people who don't agree with you that you're the best option," he said.
