Foreign Minister Julie Bishop started her six day tour of western Europe with a visit to the offices of the Charlie Hebdo magazine, where she presented staff with a cartoon by Australian artist David Pope.

The Walkley Award winning political cartoonist made global headlines in January for his work, which he first posted on social media in the wake of the deadly January 7 attack.
Twelve people were killed when a gunman opened fire in the controversial magazine's office, including four cartoonists.

The framed sketch was presented to staff on Monday, in what Ms Bishop described as a "love your work" gesture.

While in Paris, Ms Bishop met with several key figures, including Vice President of UMP, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet.
Ms Bishop is also be travelling to Berlin and Brussels, where she will meet with Germany's Foreign Minister and senior European Commission counterparts.

She also made time for some quick promotion while in the French capital.
