The Porsche CEO's remarks came at the recent opening of a new plant in the German city of Leipzig to assemble the Macan, the compact sibling of the full-size Cayenne SUV.
"With the 911 we have shown perfectly how a model can be enhanced by a range of variants and we will continue to do so with our new series," Mueller said.
The Macan range is likely to see a variety of engine variants and high-performance spin-offs, although the body shape will remain the same, a company spokesman said.
The Macan goes on sale from April, with three powerful V6 engines - two petrol units and an oil-burner. There is also talk in Stuttgart of a possible entry-level Macan priced at below 50,000 euros ($A75,753) and a plug-in hybrid variant.
