Port Adelaide are investigating a complaint that a fan racially vilified Richmond defender Bachar Houli during Sunday's AFL elimination final at Adelaide Oval.

Channel Seven has reported the alleged abuse came from a fan on the scoreboard hill.

Houli, the first devout Muslim to play in the AFL, was allegedly told he was a terrorist.

"Port Adelaide are aware of a complaint from a spectator ... alleging Richmond player Bachar Houli was racially vilified by a fellow spectator," the club said in a statement.

"The club is still seeking more details, but understands the police were informed about the matter at the time."

Port added they released a fan code of conduct in June.

They also want anyone with more information about the incident to contact them.

"The club will not tolerate vilification or unruly behaviour of any form and reserves the right to revoke memberships or casual game day tickets should any offence be committed and should a situation warranting a ban arise," the Power said.

It is unclear whether Houli heard the comments from the fan.
