Speedster Matt White's imminent return from injury is vital to Port Adelaide's coveted top-four AFL ambitions, captain Travis Boak says.

Boak believes fourth spot is gettable as White presses to return from a two-match absence due to a groin injury.

Port travel to Gold Coast knowing a healthy win, and a Fremantle loss to Hawthorn, will return the South Australian club to fourth spot.

"If you are going to make a bit of a move in September, you have got to finish in the top four," Boak told reporters on Wednesday.

"And for us it's just all about winning our next three games to be honest. And it starts with Gold Coast this weekend."

Port, sliders from top to fifth with six losses in eight games, then meet Carlton (home) and the Dockers (away) ahead of a finals campaign.

The Power expect White to return for Saturday afternoon's fixture against the Suns.

"He has been huge for us all year with that speed," Boak said of the ex-Richmond winger.

"If we can get him out in space he's pretty dangerous ... he has been able kick goals as well, which has been very important for us. He has kicked 20 goals, so he adds a fair bit."

Boak said Port's recent formline hadn't dented belief among players.

"There was certainly some bad patches we have had in games," the 26-year-old said.

"But I certainly don't think we're in that bad a form.

"We have showed some really good stuff ... our whole energy in the group has been fantastic in the last couple of weeks."

Boak will play his 150th AFL match against the Suns, the second-year skipper earning rave reviews for his leadership of Port - which surprises him.

"I never really saw myself as a leader when I was a young kid," he said.

"That has just sort of grown on me and developed through a lot of support from Dom (Cassisi) and Kane (Cornes) was my mentor when I first got to the club, they have helped me so much."
