Ladder leaders Port Adelaide expect half-back Hamish Hartlett to return from illness for Saturday night's AFL grudge match against Adelaide.

And fellow backman Jasper Pittard is tipped to return to action after overcoming a hamstring which ruined his pre-season.

Pittard strained a hamstring in Port's opening pre-season game but whether he returns straight into the AFL ranks will be decided at selection.

Utility Dougal Howard is also slated to play his first game of the season this weekend, likely in state league ranks, after recovering from a knee reconstruction.

"They have a few last checks to go but all things going to plan they should get through this week," Port's head of high performance Darren Burgess told the club's website on Monday.

Hartlett is a certain starter against the Crows in the high-stakes derby - it's the first clash between the clubs when they sit in top and second spot on the ladder.

Hartlett was a late withdrawal from Port's side which crushed Fremantle by 89 points on Sunday.

The return of the trio leaves only goalsneak Angus Monfries on the Power's injured list.

Monfries, whose pre-season was cruelled by shoulder injury, suffered a hamstring strain at training last week and will miss at least the next three weeks.
