A groin injury has ruled Port Adelaide speedster Matt White out of Sunday's AFL game against Collingwood.

But Port expect goalsneak Angus Monfries and defender Alipate Carlile to return from their respective hamstring injuries for the MCG fixture.

Monfries is a ready-made replacement for White, says Power coach Ken Hinkley.

"He (White) is struggling with a bit of a groin (injury) so to have Gus come back in is going to cover that a bit," Hinkley told reporters on Thursday.

"Matt has had the bye, we're going to give him another week off and hopefully he'll be okay."

The fifth-placed Port have lost four of their past six matches, a period coinciding with absences of Carlile and his fellow key back Jackson Trengove (ankle).

"Our form hasn't been as strong as it was, but we have still been able to hold up pretty well defensively," Hinkley said.

"If you look at our form over that month, I think we have been beaten by Sydney, Essendon, Richmond, Crows. And in their last months of football, I reckon they might have lost two or three games between the four of them, so their form has been pretty good.

"I think people have forgotten a little bit about that.

"We want to be travelling better than we have been but the bye has come at a good time for us and hopefully it gives us a good freshen-up and will allow us to come out and play the way we have to."
