Port Adelaide utility Matt White will risk his broken jaw and travel to Perth to play Fremantle in Saturday's AFL semi-final.

White will have to survive Port's Perth training session on Friday to be deemed fit to play in the sudden-death semi.

The speedster suffered a cracked jaw in Port's 57-point elimination final flogging of Richmond last Sunday.

But unlike Freo forward Hayden Ballantyne, who has been ruled out, White doesn't need surgery.

Port remain "very hopeful" that White will be cleared, teammate Jay Schulz says.

"He'll be given every opportunity, he will come and travel with us," Schulz told reporters on Wednesday.

"At the end of the day it will be a decision between him and the doctors ... I'd love him to play and I hope he does."

White is Port's main selection headache for their away final, with Ballantyne's exit meaning the Power overlook Jarman Impey, the backman summoned specifically to stand the Freo forward two weeks ago.

The Dockers won that clash by eight points and were without prime mover Nat Fyfe, who looms large in Port's planning this time.

"He won the MVP award last night, and rightly so," Schulz said of Fyfe.

"He's an absolute talent. He is a new age midfielder who is 6'2 and can jump and mark but run all day as well.

"It adds another spanner in the works for our midfielders but they will do their homework ... we have got a couple of decent-sized boys in our midfield as well so we'll give them some headaches as well."
