Portugal's Braga name Paixao as new coach

Jorge Paixao has replaced Jesualdo Ferreira as the new coach of Portuguese first division club Sporting Braga.

Jorge Paixao has been named as the new coach of Portuguese first division club Sporting Braga.

Paixao, 48, replaces Jesualdo Ferreira, who agreed to stand down on Sunday after a run of disappointing results.

He joins from second division Farense, having also managed clubs in Qatar and Angola.

Ferreira, 67, returned last summer for a second spell at the club, having previously been in the job from 2003 until 2006.

But to date, Braga have managed just eight wins against nine defeats and three draws leaving them seventh.

He left after Sunday's 2-2 home draw with lowly Arouca.

Ferreira is one of the most experienced coaches in Portugal, having been in charge of all three of the country's biggest clubs, FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
