Post-mortems to come in Tas murder-suicide

Tasmanian police continue to investigate an apparent murder-suicide, and will remain at the couple's secluded home until post-mortems are complete.

Tasmanian police have finished examining the secluded home where a Queensland couple have died in an apparent murder-suicide.

But investigators are still trying to establish a motive.

Police believe a woman shot her husband before taking her own life at their home in the small town of Wilmot, south of Devonport.

The bodies of the pair, aged in their 40s, were found by a friend on Friday after they failed to show up for work the previous day.

Police on Sunday afternoon said forensic examination of the scene was complete, but investigators would remain at the address until at least midday on Monday.

Post-mortem results are expected on Monday morning.

The deceased couple had lived at the property for some years, after moving there from Queensland.

They were not known to police, who are combing through phone and social media records, searching for a motive.

"We do not know what sparked the incident at this stage," Detective Inspector Kim Steven has told reporters.

Police say the incident appears to be a tragic case of family violence and no one else was involved.
