It's been termed the World Cup "final" by the Chile's coach Jorge Sampaoli.
His team's opening clash with the Socceroos in Cuiaba on Friday (Saturday AEST) looms as their most important, with a win putting them in a position to challenge fellow group B opponents the Netherlands and Spain for qualification for the next round.
But SBS football expert David Basheer said the Socceroos have impressed in the lead up to their opening match.
"They've had all players available in the last couple of days in training.
"Their build up has been very good in the last week," he said.
Chile's coach was quick to praise Ange Postecoglou and said he had caused an "enormous evolution" in the Socceroos' game.
"I think their new manager has coached them differently, instead of being physical it'll be a different kind of duel," said Mr Sampaoli.
David Basheer said Socceroos have their work cut out for them in their first match.
“I don’t think it will be anywhere near the embarrassment we thought it would be a few months ago, I think they’ll be really competitive.
"The only question is do they have the quality over 90 minutes against this opposition? Against the Dutch and against the Spanish?" said Basheer.
With kick-off just hours away, it's a question that will soon be answered.
