Potgieter to start for Waratahs

Big flanker Jacques Potgieter returns to the Waratahs' starting line-up for this weekend's crucial Super Rugby clash with the Cheetahs in Bloemfontain.

Big flanker Jacques Potgieter has been named to return to the Waratahs' starting line-up for this weekend's crucial Super Rugby clash with the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

In the only other change to the team that lost to the Lions in Johannesburg last round, Matt Carraro has been preferred to Peter Betham as the replacement for suspended winger Rob Horne, who was banned for three weeks for a lifting tackle.

Potgieter returned from a chest injury off the bench against the Lions and is a key inclusion for the penultimate round of the competition as the defending champion Waratahs look to secure a finals berth.

The Waratahs cannot afford to slip up against the 13th-placed Cheetahs as they are tied on points with the Brumbies in top spot in the Australian conference.

The match will kick off this Saturday at 11pm AEST.

Waratahs: Israel Folau, Taqele Naiyaravoro, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Kurtley Beale, Matt Carraro, Bernard Foley, Nick Phipps, Wycliff Palu, Michael Hooper, Jacques Potgieter, Dave Dennis (capt), Mitchell Chapman, Sekope Kepu, Hugh Roach, Benn Robinson. Res: David Porecki, Jeremy Tilse, Paddy Ryan, Stephen Hoiles, Dean Mumm, Pat McCutcheon, Brendan McKibbin, Peter Betham, Jack Dempsey, Jono Lance (two to be omitted).
