Australian IndyCar driver Will Power crashed during a warm-up lap in Toronto before organisers postponed Saturday's scheduled race due to heavy rain.

Visibility problems and slick conditions will see the race staged as part of a double-header on Sunday along with the weekend's other planned event, creating a crucial day in the hunt for the season points title.

The pace car spun as officials tried in vain to start the race on rain tyres and Power said the right call was made.

"Conditions are too dangerous," said Power, who escaped the crash unscathed.

"I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. Guys in the back couldn't see at all."

Brazil's Helio Castroneves leads with 471 points, just nine ahead of Power with American Ryan Hunter-Reay, the Indianapolis 500 winner, third at 32 points adrift.

Sunday's races, with a clear forecast, will be the 13th and 14th of 18 events this season with more than 100 points at stake.
