There's been praise for Australia's decision to lift its refugee intake from six to 12,000 places, in response to recommendations by the federal government's expert panel on asylum seekers.
The comments came during the United Nations refugee agency's Annual Tripartite Consultations on Resettlement in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Adult Multicultural Education Services, or AMES, was one of three Australian non-government organisations in attendance.
AMES General Manager in Victoria Ramesh Kumar told Peggy Giakoumelos the talks focused on the challenges arising from the growing demand for refugee resettlement.
