Cancer researchers have hailed American actress Angelina Jolie for her decision to reveal that she had her breasts removed to reduce her cancer risk.

 

In an article published in the New York Times, she says she had chosen the procedure because she carries a faulty gene that increases her risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

 

Jolie says her own mother died from cancer at the age of 56.
