Amnesty International has welcomed new legislation in Chile overturning an amnesty law shielding perpetrators of human rights violations.
The law refers to violations committed during Chile's former leader, Augusto Pinochet's military dictatorship between 1973 and 1990.
Amnesty International says official figures show more than 3000 people disappeared or were extra-judicially killed and around 40,000 became survivors of political imprisonment or torture in Chile during his leadership.
The organisation's Hugo Relva who's in Argentina, has told Zara Zaher the plan to overturn the law is a monumental step against ending impunity.
