Victoria might be "miserable, rainy and disappointing", but at least it knows how to pack a stadium to watch State of Origin.

The premiers of NSW and Victoria upped their banter on Wednesday after a cheeky attempt to put up a billboard in Melbourne encouraging investors to spend their money in NSW.

The billboard - "NSW. We actually build infrastructure. Come and invest where things get done." - was knocked back.
NSW Premier Mike Baird told 3AW Melbourne was "miserable, rainy and disappointing", and he would welcome billboards making fun of Sydney's coffee or culture.

"Our coffee's come a long way, as has our culture," he said on 3AW on Wednesday.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews initially said he wasn't going to have a crack back at Sydney.

"I'm going to be absolutely delighted to welcome Mike Baird to the MCG tonight - so he can finally see a full house for a State of Origin game," Mr Andrews said.

Mr Baird would finally get a good cup of coffee, now he was in Melbourne, Mr Andrews added.

The first State of Origin game in Sydney attracted 80,122 people, more than 3000 people below Stadium Australia's capacity.

More than 85,000 tickets have been sold for the MCG, which has a capacity of 100,000.

Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said Mr Baird was delivering for his state, trying to steal business and events from Victoria.

"Daniel Andrews is a talker. Mike Baird is a doer," he said.
