A New Zealand trio have gotten a royal surprise after realising Prince Harry photobombed their photo.

Acclaimed New Zealand rugby sevens coach Gordon Tietjens, New Zealand deputy chef de mission Trevor Shailer and sports psychologist Gary Hermansson were photographed as they sat a few rows in front of the prince, his brother Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The image shows the three New Zealanders in the foreground with the 29-year-old prince grinning in the background with two thumbs up.

Former New Zealand hockey player Bevan Hari, who took the photo and posted it to Facebook, called it the 'photo of the day.'
Prince Harry was at the Games with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Royals went largely unnoticed as they took their seats in a Glasgow arena but spectators erupted into applause when the in-house cameras revealed their presence.

William, Harry and Kate took in some boxing and were later joined by Prince Edward at the women's hockey, where the Hockeyroos defeated England 3-nil.

Prince Harry met up with the Hockeyroos after their win, telling them he hated selfies.
Prince Harry wasn't the first royal to cause a ruckus in Glasgow.

Australian hockey players Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris' selfie went viral after realising they had captured a grinning Queen Elizabeth II in the background.

Taylor said she and Peris seized the opportunity when they saw the monarch following their win over Malaysia.

"We were warming down on the second pitch after our game and the Queen came out to meet Donny (team captain Madonna Blyth)," Taylor told the Daily Telegraph.

"The security guard led us all round and we got to meet her. She asked us a bit about the pitch, how we were going and told us to enjoy our time here," she said. "She was lovely. Really, really lovely."
