Print match in Rayney phone bugging trial

Lloyd Rayney's phone bugging trial has been shown photos from a police search of his home.

Two fingerprints on a manhole cover from Lloyd Rayney's home matched the man he allegedly paid to install phone tapping equipment, a Perth court has heard.

Rayney is on trial in the West Australian District Court accused of enlisting an IT specialist to illegally intercept Corryn Rayney's phone calls in July and August 2007.

The court has heard the Rayneys' had acrimoniously separated and were headed for a divorce but were still living in the same Como house with their two daughters before Ms Rayney was murdered.

It is alleged Rayney wanted to know what his wife was saying about him, so he asked Timothy Pearson to install phone tapping equipment in the roof space above Ms Rayney's walk-in wardrobe.

Philip Williams, who worked at National Communications in 2007, testified on Wednesday that a CRU2 device was sold to Mr Pearson.

Senior Constable Damian Sheridan testified that two latent thumb prints were found on the manhole cover that matched Mr Pearson's fingerprints.

Several other police officers also testified about searches of Rayney's house in August and September 2007, and photographs were shown of the roof space, manhole, phone socket and cables.

The manhole cover and a black cable were also tendered as evidence.

Judge Andrew Stavrianou told the jury the trial was progressing at a "cracking pace" and could finish before the scheduled nine days.

Rayney was acquitted in 2012 of murdering his wife and a subsequent appeal was dismissed.

One of Rayney's daughters was in court to support her father.

The trial continues.
