Security jitters have heightened at the APEC summit in Beijing after a series of printers exploded this morning in an administration area of the international media centre.

The explosions - which appeared to be caused by an electrical fault - caused bedlam in the media centre with news crews, photographers & journalists running to capture images of the source of the rising smoke and staff shouting to evacuate.

The incident proved to be a printer malfunction in a staff area, with an apparent electrical fault causing a fire and the string of explosions.

APEC staff quickly closed doors to the damaged area and forced media away, using hand-held extinguishers to put out the flames.

There are no reports of injuries.
