Prisoner escapes Silverwater jail

An inmate serving a sentence for break and enter and assault has escaped from the minimum-security area of Sydney's Silverwater jail.

A prisoner has escaped from Silverwater jail in NSW.

The minimum-security prisoner, 19-year-old Mark Devries, was serving a sentence for break and enter, goods in custody and assault offences.

He was discovered to be missing from an accommodation area in the Dawn De Loas Correctional Centre at the Silverwater complex.

Devries is described as having a thin build and being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance.

He is between 165cm and 170cm tall, with hazel eyes and black hair. When last seen, he was wearing prison greens and was reported to be running towards Silverwater Road.

Members of the public are advised not to approach him but contact police via triple zero (000) immediately.
