South Africa have already lost AB de Villiers for their one-day series against Australia and now the Proteas are sweating on the fitness of Hashim Amla.
The star batsman, who only joined up with the squad on Wednesday following the birth of his third child, sat out Thursday's training session at Centurion due to illness.
Despite that, captain Faf du Plessis is backing Amla to be fit for Friday's series opener at SuperSport Park.
"Hash is just a little bit sick ... I'm about 99 per cent sure he'll be fine," du Plessis said.
Friday is also looming as paceman Dale Steyn's return to the Proteas' ODI team for the first time since October last year.
The fiery quick marked his return to international cricket from a shoulder injury with a match-winning eight-wicket haul at Centurion in August against New Zealand.
Du Plessis says the 33-year-old will be itching to take out his frustrations against Australia, having not being a part of South Africa's one-day team for so long.
"He felt like that at the start of the season, even with the Test matches, he felt like he needed to prove a point," du Plessis said.
"Now he's back in the one-day team and he will definitely try to make a huge impact and try and show everyone that one-day cricket is still a big part of his future."
