South Africa are confident success in the one-day international series against Australia will give the Proteas momentum heading into next month's return Test series.
The Proteas can wrap up the five-match series with a win in Wednesday's game three in Durban after dominant victories in the opening two matches.
With Australia hosting a three-Test series, starting in Perth on November 3, batsman Rilee Roussow is in no doubt momentum from the limited-overs contest can give the Proteas an edge.
"It's not going to be easy games there," Roussow said.
"If we can win this ODI series, we'll go in with strong momentum in the Tests in Australia."
Roussow says the Proteas are eager to secure the ODI series at the first attempt and deny Australia any chance to mount a comeback.
The left-hander has been a key element in both matches, hitting 63 and 75 in his two innings.
Roussow was named in the team in game one after Hashim Amla was ruled out with a viral infection.
He surprisingly kept his place ahead of Amla for game two when selectors opted to stick with a winning team.
Amla is expected to return to the line-up for game three, however, with Roussow likely to have to shuffle down the order to make way for the veteran.
"If Hash comes back and I am playing, I think I'll have to move into the middle order. I'm not a 100 per cent sure yet," he said.
"I prefer the new ball. While it's still in the power play, I can pierce the field and just have good cricket shots for boundaries and runs."
