Protesters at Transfield AGM

Protesters outside detention centre operator Transfield Services' AGM calls on the company to improve conditions for asylum seekers.

Protesters outside detention centre operator Transfield Services' annual general meeting have accused the company of being complicit in the abuse of asylum seekers.

The demonstrators also accused Transfield of breaching international law while running the Nauru and Manus Island offshore detention centres.

About 150 protesters gathered at the AGM in Sydney on Wednesday, saying the company had "blood on its hands" and calling for the centres to be closed.

"We're calling on this company to end the conditions that are putting people in harm's way," Get Up national director Paul Oosting told AAP on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, No Business in Abuse, an organisation associated with Get Up, released a report into the treatment of detainees on Manus Island and Nauru, accusing Transfield of involvement in 47 violations of international law.

Transfield rejected the report, saying it was bound by Australian law and the laws of the jurisdictions in which it works.

Javed de Costa, from Divest from Detention, urged shareholders to boycott the company.

"We follow the lead of detainees themselves who are calling for their freedom and the end to the detention system," he said.
