The $1.45 billion Perth Stadium will be officially launched with a free community open day on January 21.

Ticket holders will be able to tour the stadium and experience its lighting, video and audio systems, as well as see live bands and roaming entertainment in the Stadium Park.

Premier Mark McGowan expects up to 20,000 people to enter during each one-hour allotted period in the afternoon and evening, and said the event could extend to the morning if there was demand.

Visitors will also be able to use free public transport, which will provide a test run before the stadium hosts a big event.

The premier said he remained very keen on getting the AFL women's match at the stadium.

"We've actually made an offer to the AFL ... we'll pick up the cost of the stadium opening and we'll pick up the public transport cost if we can get a women's match here early in February," he told reporters on Sunday.

"They haven't committed to doing it so far ... we think that would be a fitting first football event."

Mr McGowan said the all-important footbridge, which has already been delayed, was on track to be ready in March but it remained unclear whether it would be available for the start of the AFL season.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said big events at the stadium would attract tens of thousands of visitors to the state and inject millions of the dollars into the economy.

"It will give us a brand new element to our marketing campaign. This is going to be the best stadium in the world when it opens," he said.

The state budget includes $425 million over five years for destination marketing and events tourism.

Two Ed Sheeran concerts and the Perth NRL double header in March, Chelsea Football Club versus Perth Glory in mid-2018, and the State of Origin II and a Bledisloe Cup match in 2019 are already booked at the stadium.
