Job opportunities in the public service are set to heat up again with the end of a hiring freeze.

After more than 18 months of reductions in staffing levels, agency heads will be able to make their own appointments again and advertise publicly from Wednesday.

But there will still be some restrictions, with departments accountable for making sure recruitment is consistent with budget estimates, the public service commission says in its latest advice.
