More than 6700 people have signed a petition to have the fictional BCC chat show presenter, famously played by Steve Coogan, to replace the suspended host.
The petition, started by Lorn Macdonald on Change.org, cites Partidge’s “relaxed professionalism”, stating that his portfolio “shows off his ability to talk about and inform on a range of topics”.
Social media users have also thrown their support behind the petition, tweeting under the hashtag #HirePartridge.
The online push comes more than a week after the BBC suspended Clarkson following a "fracas" with an assistant producer.
Clarkson has worked for the British national broadcaster since 1988.
