Australia's Commonwealth diving champion Esther Qin has narrowly missed the three-metre springboard podium at the world championships in Russia.
In another final dominated by China, Qin (347.20 points) finished fourth with Maddison Keeney seventh (326.60).
China's Shi Tingmao (383.55) took gold ahead of teammate He Zi (377.45) while Italy's Tania Cagnotto (356.15) claimed bronze.
Keeney, 19, fought back after baulking on her second dive and earning an automatic two point deduction that relegated her to last in the 12-strong field.
The teenager made the same mistake on her final dive in the 1m event earlier this week, copping a zero score from judges.
Keeney will combine with Grant Nel in the mixed 3m synchro on Sunday, the diving competition's final day.
Australia's Domonic Bedggood (eighth) has qualified for Sunday's 10m platform final.
It earned Australia a spot in the event at the Rio Games.
Teammate James Connor finished 13th in Saturday's 10m semis, missing a final spot - and an Australian Olympic qualifier - by one position.
