A constable has been hit in the face with a concrete brick in a remote community in far north Queensland.

The 27-year-old was speaking to two men in the Cape York town of Kowanyama, northwest of Cairns, when he was struck in the face by a third man on Monday night.

The officer was left with a deep cut to his head and was treated at a local health clinic, police say.

A man, also 27, has been charged with seriously assaulting a police officer, obstructing police, wilful damage and public nuisance.

He will appear in Weipa Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.
