A Queensland magistrate has ordered "Postcard Bandit" Brenden Abbott to be extradited to Western Australia to allow authorities to pursue him over a 1989 jailbreak.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Terry Gardiner ordered the 53-year-old be extradited after Abbott was released on parole from the Brisbane Correctional Centre at Wacol this morning.

Abbott's lawyer unsuccessfully argued it would be an abuse of process to allow the interstate bodies to pursue Abbott over matters he had unsuccessfully sought to resolve before being granted parole in Queensland.
