A post-mortem examination will be performed on a man who died in police custody on the Gold Coast to determine his cause of death.
The 54-year-old was placed into a police van after officers were called to Victoria Park, Broadbeach, just before 11am on Tuesday after complaints of a disturbance.
Witnesses said the vehicle travelled just 30m before police had to stop and perform CPR, but the man couldn't be revived.
Paramedics also attended and found the man bleeding from cuts to his face and arms, but it remains unclear how he sustained those injuries.
Police have said he suffered breathing difficulties while in custody.
A post-mortem examination will attempt to establish his cause of death, while an independent investigation by Ethical Standards Command will examine the actions of the arresting officers.
The state's Crime and Corruption Commission will oversee the probe.
