Qld election set for knife-edge: poll

Labor are neck and neck with the LNP two days out from the Queensland election, according to the latest poll.

The Liberal National Party is set to hold on to power in Queensland, albeit with a drastically reduced majority, according to the latest poll.

The ReachTel poll, commissioned by Network Seven, has the LNP ahead of Labor on a two-party preferred result at 52 per cent to 48.

The LNP - who hold 73 of the state's 89 seats - received 41.5 per cent to 37.2 on first preferences, with The Greens (7.5) gaining the most of the minor party support.

The ReachTel poll of 1560 Queenslanders supports the expected result, but shows the incumbent government may have more breathing room than what Thursday's smaller Essential Research poll suggested - having the major parties deadlocked at 50 per cent each.

The latest poll highlighted the growing discontent with Premier Campbell Newman with 35.7 per cent of respondents labelling his performance as very poor and 16.7 per cent as poor.

A combined 33 per cent rated his efforts very good or good.

However, he was still viewed as the LNP's best option as premier, with 32.5 per cent, ahead of Speaker Fiona Simpson (23.1)

Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk's performance was also viewed dimly, with only 30 per cent of voters rating her efforts positively.

But 55.2 per cent of the respondents believed Ms Palaszczuk had performed better than Mr Newman (44.8) on the campaign trail.

The previous ReachTel poll, released on Wednesday, had Mr Newman falling behind his Ashgrove rival Kate Jones, setting the stage for a party-room battle to choose the state's next leader on Sunday.
