A bushfire has damaged one structure and forced the evacuation of part of a jail in north Queensland.

Fifteen crews are still on the scene near Southwood Road, Hunter Road, Stuart Drive and the Bruce Highway at the Townsville suburb of Stuart.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service says one structure was damaged and several cars were destroyed in a wrecking yard before the warning was downgraded to advice level on Thursday afternoon.

Smoke temporarily forced the evacuation of part of the Townsville Correctional Centre into another part of the jail.

Six male prisoners were treated for smoke inhalation and two were transferred to hospital.

The QFES says there is no longer an immediate threat to homes but says residents should avoid the area as crews conduct back-burning and water bombing.

Almost 1000 residences are still without power.

Another advice warning has been issued for a fire burning near Lady Elliot Drive, Josefski Road and Allingham at Agnes Water, north of Bundaberg.

A smoke haze is affecting the area and motorists should slow down.

Residents in the area should consider taking precautionary measures.
