An 11-hour siege in north Queensland has ended peacefully after an alleged gunman surrendered to police.

The 49-year-old man had been holed up inside a home on Burston St, Mackay, since about 8.45pm (AEST) on Wednesday.

A person concerned about the man's welfare contacted police and it was believed he was armed with a gun.

Officers finally took the man into custody after he voluntarily surrendered about 7.45am on Thursday.

"There were no injuries to police or him," a police spokesperson told AAP and a public safety preservation act declaration was revoked shortly after.
